Over the past year NELIE has automatically emailed every GP user of the system, monthly patient identifying information regarding their patient’s Hospital activity. At the last count this was over 800 practice staff across 477 practices, within 17 CCGs spanning across a population of 13,377,069. This activity includes accident and emergency frequent attenders and avoidable emergency admissions information.
The email initiative came from repeated calls from practice staff across our CCG customers. As staff were inundated with work load, this process helped filter multiple reports to get the information. So having a list of patients to review made the process a lot more efficient.
This simple request formed the base of our initiative to build a solution and in a true iterative development process we now have an email sent out to users. Originally the email was a simple message with link to the patient data but each month we have added the following features:
- Multiple links to patient cohorts
- Practice ranking against their network group peers
- Six month trend analysis
Our NELIE email alert saves GPs valuable time and effort, allowing GPs to build better care plans for their patients. The email is flexible enough to focus on local Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) plans. Both City and Hackney CCG and Herts Valleys CCG currently use the email to highlight specific areas of interest to their practices. Along with the email is a complementary message that goes out to all our CCG customers with an aggregate view across their entire CCG.
