Ongoing review of cancer drugs saves £7.8m in 30 months
NHS England’s (NHSE) Specialist Commissioning South East hub asked us to review the data for eleven hospitals to see whether requests made to the Cancer Drug Fund fitted the complex criteria required.
A team of our specialist pharmacy technicians meticulously reviewed over 30,000 lines of drug data each month. Their 30 years of collective experience in the NHS enables them to apply an exceptional working knowledge of NHS commissioning, the conditions attributed to specialised commissioned and the requirements of the Cancer Drug Fund.
They challenged the trusts over any that appeared to not fit the commissioning categories on behalf of NHSE, releasing savings for the Cancer Drug Fund.
The team have become trusted advisers to NHSE, and have been recommissioned to provide this service over the last three years.
