Supporting a successful major reconfiguration of cancer and cardiac services
Cancer and cardiovascular outcomes in north and east London account for 1,200 premature deaths per year. Clinicians had developed a vision for two world class centres at UCLH (cancer) and Barts Health (cardiovascular), with significant streamlining of pathways and consolidation of specialist care to fewer centres. Their aims were to significantly improve patient outcomes by reducing variation and improve performance.
We provided a comprehensive package of programme support to NHS England by:
Working with clinicians to develop a compelling case for change
Leading a comprehensive stakeholder engagement process
Undertaking a formal option appraisal
Assessing activity, finance and market impacts
Assessing the service readiness and providing commissioner assurance
Supporting delivery of the reconfiguration
This support was as part of a blended team with a private sector consultancy partner.
Our robust delivery of the first phase gained agreement from stakeholders that formal consultation was not required, saving time and money.
We supported delivery of the full programme – the services are now reconfigured and operating from their new sites.
